Life changed instantly for Nepalese rider Padam, who won Dh20 million in his 124th draw at the Mahzooz. Under the new structure, he is the first grand prize winner in the 2023 draw. “It still hasn’t sunk,” the expat said as he picked up his check on Wednesday.
Padam earns a monthly salary of Dh5,700 and has long been involved in charity and helping people. “I do what I can to help the blind and the elderly with a cane. However, now I will be able to help financially on a much larger level.”
Padam has been working in the UAE for the past 23 years as a driver for the same company that originally hired him. He started participating after the draw started, “It was called another name then. I didn’t win then, but when Mahzooz launched, I won Dh35 and Dh350 once, but it was something I never dreamed of,” Padam explain.
The Nepalese expatriate said he chose lucky numbers, “Letting my wife and daughter choose one each, and I chose the other three. This has been the number selection process for a long time,” Padam said.
