A new project announced on Monday will allow Emirati employees to combine total years of service in the event of a career change. When finding a new job, they can choose not to use the end-of-service payment and benefits of their previous job, but to combine it with subsequent services at no additional cost.
Shourak (Arabic for “preference”), launched by the General Pensions and Social Security Administration (GPSSA), will come into force on July 1 this year. Individuals are eligible for end-of-service benefits when employment ends. With Shourak, they can choose not to receive this payment and instead have it rolled over when they start a new job.
The project aims to create incentives to increase the number of insureds who benefit from the retirement system. It provides them with options that help promote “a decent future lifestyle and financial sustainability”. It also facilitates the process of movement of UAE employees between different jobs, helping them benefit from the best possible opportunities.
“Shourak … supports citizens working in government and the private sector until the end of their pension-eligible service period by simplifying the process of enrolling in service,” GPSSA said.
This is the first “transformation project” launched by GPSSA. Shourak was part of a performance agreement signed last year for federal and government authorities.
The results-oriented performance agreement, signed in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, represents a qualitative project to enhance the country’s competitiveness.
