RTA adjusts peak hours based on decision to change weekend days
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced adjusted peak hours for taxi fares in the emirate due to changes over the weekend.
“The RTA would like to inform you of the adjustment of Dubai taxi rush hours in light of the decision to change weekend dates. You can book online during these times and enjoy a relaxing and comfortable journey,” it said in a tweet on Monday.
From January 1, 2022, UAE changes work week From Sunday to Thursday to Monday to Friday (half day) in line with most other countries in the world.This rule applies to Federal and local levels each emirate.
Due to the weekend changes, public sector entities have revised service hours and charges based on public demand for their services.
The Roads and Transport Authority has announced that a Dh12 fare will apply from Monday to Thursday from 8am to 10am and from 4pm to 8pm.
On Friday, peak fares will apply from 8am to 10am and 4pm to 12noon. On weekends Saturday to Sunday, peak hours are from 4pm to 12pm.
Peak hours are usually when demand is high and many people book taxis, with fares starting from Dh12.
There is less demand for taxis in the UAE during off-peak hours, so fares are as low as Dh5. But for those taking a taxi from the airport or Port Rashid, the fare is between Dh20 and Dh25, depending on the type of taxi.

With the change over the weekend, the RTA had earlier announced that the red and green lines would run from 5am to 1.15am Monday to Thursday. Metro lines operate from 5am to 2.15am on Fridays and Saturdays. On Sundays, the subway service is from 8am to 1.15am. Trams operate Monday to Saturday from 6:00 am to 1:00 am. On Sundays, trams run from 9 am to 1 am. Free parking on Fridays and public holidays.
