It will be the first New Year’s Eve bash without any restrictions since the Covid-19 pandemic. After years of low-key celebrations, Abu Dhabi is gearing up for its biggest party yet.

Hundreds of thousands of residents and tourists are expected to descend on Al Wathba for more than 40 minutes of multiple world-record-breaking fireworks and a spectacle featuring 3,000 drones.

Crowds are expected at other hotspots such as the Corniche, Al Maryah Island and Yas Island, where the skies will be lit up with spectacular fireworks in 2023.

Here’s your guide to what’s happening and where in the emirate.

Where is Al Wathba and how to get there?

Al Wathba is a suburb approximately 50 kilometers from mainland Abu Dhabi. Apart from driving or taking a taxi, the best option is to take the free bus (408 bus) to and from Sheikh Zayed Festival. From Abu Dhabi Central Bus Station, a service will cover Rabdan and Co-Operative Society supermarkets in Baniyas Court.

Services start at 3pm, festival gates open at 4pm, and many special events, laser and light shows, music and dance performances, plenty of food stalls, and a variety of attractions for families and kids to enjoy with ease 3,000 planes unoccupied The hours are counting down to the spectacle of a machine show and over 40 minutes of fireworks.

What are the options for Abu Dhabi City?

People can crowd the popular Corniche area by choosing a spot in any green park or open area. Additionally, the ongoing Mother of Nations Festival (MOTN) on the Corniche will provide a vantage point to watch the fireworks, with more entertainment and snack options. Tickets for MOTN are AED 30 for online booking and AED 35 for on-site purchase. Elsewhere on Al Maryah Island, there will be a 10-minute firework display on the promenade. Beachfront restaurants at Rosewood Abu Dhabi, Four Seasons and the Galleria offer a variety of menu options to enjoy the stunning views. There’s also Winter Wonderland, with exciting games, activities and shows, also suitable for kids.

Yas Island joins the party with two fireworks

Visitors to Yas Bay Waterfront and Yas Marina will be able to enjoy two fireworks displays (9pm and midnight). Both Yas Island destinations are dotted with a variety of niche restaurants offering food and music acts, DJs, roaming entertainment and more for a night to remember. In addition, Saadiyat Beach Club will hold a firework display on New Year’s Day. In addition, fireworks displays will be held in the eastern districts of Al Ain and the western districts of Al Dhafra.
