Abu Dhabi will celebrate the start of 2023 with spectacular fireworks displays and vibrant events across the emirate. From Al Ain in the east to the city of Abu Dhabi to Al Dhafra in the west, the UAE’s largest emirate has lined up an incredible variety of events to ring in the new year.

As usual, Abu Dhabi Police have put in place comprehensive plans to host a safe, secure and incident-free gathering for residents and visitors in all parts of the emirate.

Police will work with strategic partners to ensure smooth flow of traffic and reduce congestion.

General Ahmed Saif bin Zaytoun Al-Muhiri, Director of Central Operations, stressed that the force has developed a joint security plan to ensure the security of all tourist areas and commercial centers.

A number of road closures and a ban on certain vehicles have been announced. Heavy vehicles, trucks and buses transporting laborers will not be allowed on Abu Dhabi Island for 24 hours from 7am on Saturday. Logistics and general cleaning company vehicles are exempt from the ban.

Additionally, two bridges leading to Al Maryah Island (a section of Al Maryah Street and Hamdan bin Mohammed Street) will be closed in both directions from 11pm on Saturday until 12.30am on January 1 after the fireworks display.

Police will consider all precautions to ensure the safety of community members.

The Traffic and Patrol Bureau, a central business unit, will enhance traffic safety by taking necessary precautionary measures. The agency has urged motorists to obey traffic laws such as not speeding, wearing seat belts, avoiding distractions with mobile phones and keeping a safe distance between vehicles.

Al-Muhiri warned motorists against uncivilized behaviour, such as reckless driving or noisy vehicles.

“Comply with the guidelines and recommendations aimed at providing a safe atmosphere for the success of the event and bringing joy to the public during New Year’s celebrations,” he noted.

In case of any emergency, community members have been urged to call 999 to contact the operating theater.
