Major supermarket chain Carrefour announced on Thursday that it will freeze the prices of more than 200 daily necessities in the UAE until the end of the year.
To help its customers stretch their budgets amid rising living costs around the world, the retailer has negotiated with suppliers to lock in prices on several items typically placed in residents’ shopping carts.
Products to be covered by the initiative include pasta, rice, cooking oil, coffee powder and sugar.
Carrefour said in a statement that the move will allow cupboard essentials, sweet and savory snacks, and all frozen foods to be available “at the lowest possible price.”
Christophe Orcet, Head of Carrefour Commercial and Operations at Majid Al Futtaim Retail, said: “Understanding the economic issues facing many households around the world, Carrefour remains committed to mitigating the impact of inflation through our various low price strategies.
“With the help of our suppliers, we have been able to secure prices on more than 200 products while minimizing our margins to ensure stability. We hope this reassures our customers that hundreds of everyday essentials will remain the same in the future Great prices for a few months.”
Carrefour’s price lock also covers home furnishing brands such as Nutella, Bonne Maman, Heinz, Betty Crocker and Kellogg’s. Efforts to stabilize prices have resulted in lower margins on more than 300 products throughout 2022.
