- Early detection of cancer is one of the main ways to prevent cancer
Abu Dhabi, UAE: Day two of the 10th UAE Oncology Conference (EOC 2022) continued to shed light on major advances in cancer research, education and research in the field. The conference was hosted by Abu Dhabi Health Services – SEHA, which is committed to providing the UAE with world-class healthcare and continuing medical education, keeping the public informed and ensuring medical professionals are kept up-to-date in their fields.
Day two of EOC included key sessions covering many topics, with internationally renowned speakers delivering insightful presentations and visual presentations to keep the audience engaged. Subjects included breast cancer, hematologic malignancies, palliative care, lung cancer, radiation oncology, and neuro-oncology.
EOC is the UAE’s leading oncology platform for doctors, surgeons, researchers, healthcare providers and industry representatives to engage and share ideas to shape the future of cancer care in the UAE.
Dr Aftab Ahmed Bhatti, Consultant Urologist, Tawam Hospitalsaid: “EOC has become the leading oncology conference in the region. It started with 1200 We expect to welcome over 3,500 delegates and new delegates over the weekend. This meeting is unique in that it touches on all disciplines of the medical and surgical specialties. It allows people to share expertise in their field, expand it and connect with others with different expertise. “
Various leading doctors, scientists, professors, students and many more experts in the field of cancer treatment and diagnostics gathered in Abu Dhabi to collaborate to find solutions to the many challenges they face by sharing the latest breakthrough research and technologies available today.
Professor Hennie Botha, Head of Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Stellenbosch University, South Africa, held a major meeting to discuss eradicating cervical cancer worldwide through simple steps people can take at a young age. He said: “I gave a presentation on the global eradication of cervical cancer. The first and most important message was that vaccination is a relatively simple way to prevent this devastating disease. An inspiration to all young people in the world.”
According to the World Health Organization, cancer is the leading cause of death worldwide, currently killing approximately 10 million people each year.Millions of people are still diagnosed with cancer each year, and approximately 400,000 children develop new cancers each year[1].
Professor Syed Hussain, Consultant Medical Oncologist, University of Sheffield, UKsaid: “The outlook for cancer is changing. The burden of cancer is increasing and will continue to increase over the next decade. We need to be able to improve drug development so that patients can receive better treatment earlier. We also have many New technologies and technological developments, but one of the main things we can do is to detect and prevent cancer early. If we can detect cancer early, the survival rate of patients within 5 years will be as high as 80%.”
As one of the main methods of prevention, early detection of cancer has been an important topic for many years. Early detection of cancer has two main components, early diagnosis or downstaging and appropriate screening. Early diagnosis focuses on finding symptomatic patients as early as possible, while screening involves testing healthy individuals to identify patients with cancer before any symptoms appear.
The 10th UAE Oncology Conference continues for another day at Conrad Etihad Towers in Abu Dhabi and will include topics in Pediatric Oncology, Genitourinary, Gastrointestinal and Educational Sessions, including multidisciplinary case discussions. The EOC also includes a satellite symposium where professionals exchange ideas on a wide range of topics in oncology.
