UAE operations: UAE under construction of new US$2.08 billion desalination plant: Al Mazrouei

As part of its sixth Sustainable Development Goal, the UAE has reportedly launched several strategic projects across the country in the field of desalination Ten thousand.

The report quoted a senior minister as saying that these strategic projects in the desalination industry will play a vital role in helping to achieve water security by providing water supply and ensuring the sustainability of their country.

“The value of investments in new desalination plants in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Umm Al Qaiwain has reached AED 7.63 billion (US$ 2.08 billion),” said Suhail bin Mohammed Al. Energy and Foundation Facilities Minister Mazrouei speaks during the ongoing World Utilities Congress 2022.

According to Al Mazrouei, the desalination industry is growing at an annual rate of 3%.

“The UAE has launched several national strategic projects in the desalination sector, in accordance with the directives of its leadership, which will help achieve water security by providing water supply and ensuring its national sustainability,” he added.

Al Mazrouei stressed that the UAE has prioritized the sixth Sustainable Development Goal to ensure water sustainability and availability in natural conditions and emergencies, affirming that water security is the cornerstone of sustainable development.

He further added that the UAE has undertaken several major projects in the water sector and deployed advanced technologies.

Regarding the model adopted by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure to increase the resilience of the water and energy sector, Al Mazrouei said that the ministry, in collaboration with its energy and water sector partners, has implemented the UAE Water Security Strategy 2036 and National Water and Energy Demand Management plan, which follows approved policies, including the development of supply and demand sectors.

Providing electricity at an affordable price is one of the factors that ensures economic success and community safety, so the ministry has drafted the UAE Energy Strategy 2050 to create an energy mix that includes natural gas, nuclear, solar and wind, he added.
