A group of suspects have been arrested in the UAE after they were caught growing drug plants in their residential flats. The Sharjah Public Prosecution has launched an investigation into the incident.
The Asian suspects were charged with growing drugs for the purpose of drug trafficking. Prosecutors did not disclose the exact nature of the drugs, but released a photo showing the marijuana plant.
Authorities said a resident was repairing an air-conditioner in the building and saw some plants, suspected to be poisonous plants. He immediately called the police.
A police detachment raided the apartment and found a “fully equipped tent nursery” with six plants growing in it. The team seized tools used to grow the drug. Investigations revealed that the suspect had prepared the apartment specifically for this purpose.
Prosecutors cited a law that bans the cultivation of drug plants, and the maximum penalty for drug trafficking is the death penalty.
