UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed has ordered $6.8 million (Dh25 million) in humanitarian aid to Sudan after floods killed at least 66 people and destroyed more than 12,000 homes.
“The directive of His Highness President Sheikh Mohammed to provide such assistance expresses the solidarity of the UAE and its people with the Sudanese people under such dire circumstances,” the Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported on Saturday.

Aid is expected to ease the suffering of those displaced by the floods.
According to the WAM report, the gesture is said to be a testament to the “deep-rooted relationship” between the two countries.
Torrential rain-induced flash floods continue to destroy homes across Sudan This week, the death toll rose to 66 since the rainy season began, the Associated Press reported Thursday.
Earlier this week, authorities had said at least 50 people had been killed since the rains started in June.
Brig. At least 28 people were reportedly injured during the same period, General Abdul Jalil Abdul Rahim, spokesman for Sudan’s National Civil Defense Council, said on Tuesday.
Overall, about 136,000 people have been affected by heavy rainfall and flooding in 12 of Sudan’s 18 provinces, according to the government-run Humanitarian Aid Committee.
The rainy season in Sudan usually starts in June and lasts until the end of September, with floods peaking in August and September.
More than 80 people were killed in flood-related incidents during the rainy season last year.
In 2020, authorities declared Sudan a natural disaster zone and imposed a three-month state of emergency across the country after floods and torrential rains killed about 100 people and inundated more than 100,000 homes.
