UAE publishes world’s first vertiport regulations

[ad_1]

The UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has released the world’s first national regulations related to vertiports to support rapid development and global investment in the UAE’s highly progressive and competitive aviation industry.

The regulations cover design and operational requirements for vertiports while ensuring that the regulatory environment supports the efficient and safe operation of vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) aircraft.

Proposed amendments to the draft new regulations have been released for industry consultation and the final version will be published in the first quarter of 2023, the Emirates News Agency reported. Wan.

The rapid and growing development of electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft is imperative, requiring new infrastructure, new networks, and new regulatory approaches.

Demand for vertiports continues to accelerate as eVTOL manufacturers aim to launch their aircraft by 2024. With a potential global network envisioned by 2030, this new type of carbon-neutral industry must be served by suitable, secure and regulated infrastructure.

The promises associated with this new mode of transport include ensuring rapid movement of passengers within cities and reducing traffic congestion through a safe and organized infrastructure, as well as fast logistical response to emergencies and easy access to markets between cities.

The UAE Vertiport Regulation strengthens the UAE’s urban air mobility proposition while raising the level of safety in the aviation sector and actively provides a unique certification and regulatory oversight framework for vertiports. This improves the security of our critical national infrastructure and aviation systems, while maintaining the UAE’s leading position in the global aviation industry.

Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, said: “The proactive development of a vertiport regulatory framework has laid the foundation for the UAE to ensure the safe and seamless operation of urban air mobility. The market to enter presents opportunities, which can all be realized through vision, planning and close collaboration with aviation industry stakeholders.”
