Khalaf Al Habtoor, chairman of Al Habtoor, said all his meetings with Queen Elizabeth II were memorable and she enjoyed seeing his children and took the time to talk to them and answer their many questions.

The Queen died at Balmoral Castle in England late on Thursday at the age of 96.

Al Habtoor, who knew the Queen himself and had many interactions with Her Majesty and her sons, grandsons and granddaughters, offered his condolences to the Royal Family and the British people on her passing.

“I first met Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth at the 2013 Al Habtoor Royal Windsor Cup, a polo event sponsored by the Al Habtoor Group at the Queen’s Grounds in Windsor, England. He said all the meetings and interactions were memorable, but two examples stood out.

“The first time I remember was during the World Cup. I asked the Queen about the World Cup…I remember that conversation like it was yesterday. I asked her if she was following the World Cup and she replied briefly: ‘Sometimes Philip is on TV’ Look at them, and after a few minutes I grab the remote and turn it off.'”

Al Habtoor shared details of his second most memorable interaction with Her Majesty the Queen, saying he took his granddaughter to meet her for the first time during the Diamond Jubilee of the 60th coronation anniversary in 2012.

“As she greeted them, one of my granddaughters, Mariam bint Ahmad Al Habtoor, who was less than 10 years old, saluted her and congratulated her on her Diamond Jubilee. Her Majesty smiled with all her heart, thanked Mariam, and stood there Conversed for a few minutes with the children. She was a symbol of grace and kindness,” said Al Habtoor.
