With Christmas only seven weeks away, UAE residents can barely keep themselves excited – planning and drawing up a checklist to get their homes ready for the season. Expats have already started pre-ordering their decorations – Christmas trees, which are imported from Europe and the US by suppliers across the UAE.
“All of our Christmas trees come from a sustainable forest farm on the southern island of Fyn, Denmark, where our farmers have been growing Christmas trees for over 25 years,” said Daniel Cabral, Kibsons Maritime Purchasing Director.
He said they have started taking pre-orders from customers through their website and app and are offering a 15% discount on pre-orders. “The trees will be delivered to your home or delivery location on November 29th or 30th,” he said.
Ace horticultural buyer James Bartlett also said bookings for their trees had begun and would run until December 10. “The trees will be delivered from the 11th to the 24th,” he said, adding that they have two weeks to pre-order. – Order system before receiving the trees in the store.
Christmas tree prices range from Dh216 – Dh399 for a small tree (1.5m – 1.8m), Dh361 – Dh499 for a medium tree (1.75 m – 2.1 m) and Dh467 – Dh599 for a large tree (2.00 m – 2.4 m).
In a post-pandemic world that’s almost normalized, this year is different, Daniel said. “On average, we’ve seen demand increase year over year, but this year is special; we’re excited to see where our sales end up going,” he said.
Both suppliers say their trees will keep for at least a month in the UAE. “We know our trees are good for over a month. Thankfully, we have had no customer complaints, which we believe is due to our high focus on quality and maintaining the cold chain from the farmer to your home, ensuring a healthy and strong tree, ‘ said Daniel.

Trees need to be properly set up and watered to stay strong and healthy. “Sufficient water is provided to the stand each week, and they can last for up to two months,” James added, adding that placement in the house would also extend its life. For example, putting them under an air conditioner will make the tree trunk faster.
When looking for a tree supplier, Daniel said Kibsons focused on sustainability and good planting practices, and was a farmer with expertise in selecting quality Christmas trees suitable for the UAE. “We work with our farmers to make sure they select some of the best Nordmann fir varieties available,” he said.
According to James, quality and availability are very important this season. “We’re proud to be the destination for our customers looking for the perfect Christmas tree,” he said, adding that Ace will stock Fraser fir trees this year. “They’re going to be very lush trees with lots of branches to hang decorations on,” he said.
If you’re wondering what to do with your tree after Christmas, Kibsons offers their customers the option to collect the tree when they choose to take it down, and even ship it back as firewood. “Alternatively, we use trees as composite materials,” Daniel said. Ace has partnered with Yes Full Circle Solution to recycle trees, James said.
