With tourism rebounding strongly post-pandemic, UAE residents will take multiple trips and holidays in the coming year.

Travel agents noted that “revenge tourism” that began late last year or earlier this year was continuing in some markets. Both leisure and business travel in the first quarter of next year were fairly strong, they said.

“Some people call it ‘revenge tourism’. After Covid-19, the way people travel has changed. As the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) said in its report, people who used to travel once a year are planning to travel twice a year. Nearly 60% to 70% plan to travel multiple times this year. This will have a positive impact on the entire industry, whether it is tourism or hospitality,” said TP Sudheesh, managing director, Deira Tours and Travels.

A recently released WTTC survey shows that demand for international travel is now at its highest point since the pandemic began.

2022 will be an exceptionally strong year for Dubai’s tourism industry, driven by Expo 2020 Dubai and the FIFA World Cup. The UAE government’s winter cool campaign is also expected to boost tourism in the country.

Galadari International Travel Services MICE & Holidays manager Mir Wasim Raja said the next year seems to be busy, especially the period from January to March.

“The first quarter was very strong, especially on the corporate and MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) side. Because it’s a normal journey for people now, similar to pre-pandemic levels. Also, households are Travel. So both inbound and outbound tourism are very strong,” he said.

Avinash Adnani, managing director of Pluto Travels, also sees a bumper period for local tourism ahead of the start of Ramadan, which begins in the third week of April.

“We expect a bumper harvest until Ramadan in March, as the positive impact of the FIFA World Cup will continue into the first quarter of 2023,” Adnani said.
