An UAE resident is about to embark on the journey of a lifetime as he travels from Dubai to Jerusalem and Tel Aviv in his car.
American Bruce Gurfein, 45, left Dubai on Sunday aboard the Nissan Armada for a round-trip 8,760km journey.
He says National As a Jew living in the UAE, this journey has a special symbolic meaning for him.
The trip is expected to take 21 days and he will travel through countries including Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Jordan.
“It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. I’ve lived here since 1997, and now the relationship between Israel and the UAE is so good, it feels like it’s about time,” Mr. Gulfin said.
“I’ve always been fascinated by how many similarities there are between Jews and Muslims.
“There are so many things that tie us together. We should work together instead of fighting each other and going against each other.”
He said the signing of the Abraham Accords was an important sign that Israel and the UAE are as close as they have been in decades.

The agreement is the first between Israel and an Arab country in more than 25 years.
“I want to do [the trip] About five or six years ago, but it was not possible to obtain the licenses required by each country,” he said.
“A lot of countries can’t understand why I should get a permit to travel to Israel to drive a car with an Emirati plate.
On a mission to promote food security
“Now that there is a peace deal, things are much simpler.”
Another reason for Mr. Guerfin’s visit is that he is building an interconnected platform for food tech and desert tech nations in the region.
A large part of the journey will be spent meeting with potential clients, he said.
“Finding solutions to food security issues is critical, especially in the region,” he said.
“With so many people working in these areas in the region, it’s important to be able to bring them together to find possible solutions that can help so many people.”
He added that the most challenging part of planning the journey was obtaining the various permits required to enter each country.
“The cost of various licenses and insurance is about AED 20,000 ($5,400). The reason for this is because I have to get a special license for my car in every country I travel to,” Mr Gurfein said .
“No single insurance company can cover my entire trip, so I have to get separate policies for each country.”
