UAE reviews plans to develop tourism data system

The UAE Tourism Council has reviewed national plans to develop a tourism data system based on global best practices to boost tourism in foreign markets to increase the flow of tourists to the UAE.

The first Council meeting in 2022 was held under the chairmanship of Dr. Ahmad Belhoul Al Falasi, Minister of State for Entrepreneurs and SMEs, attended by heads of all UAE local tourism sectors and entities, members of the board of directors, and also reviewed according to the UAE The performance of tourism and hotel facilities in the country in 2021 and the growth rate achieved by several tourism indicators, the news agency reports Wow.

The data shows that hotels in the country received 19 million tourists in 2021, an increase of more than 29% compared to the number of tourists in 2020. Domestic tourism accounted for 58 percent of the UAE’s total tourist arrivals last year. Hotel facilities generated Dh28 billion in revenue last year, a 70% increase compared to 2020.

Over the past year, hotel bookings exceeded 75 million, a 42% increase from 2020, and hotel occupancy rates reached 67%, the highest occupancy rate for a major global travel destination. Compared to 2020, the number of hotels in the UAE will increase by 5% to 1,144 in 2021. During the same period, the number of hotel rooms in the UAE increased by 8% to 194,000.

Al Falasi asserted that due to the vision and direction of the wise leadership and through the provision of integrated tourism products and services, the UAE will be enhanced as a preferred and sustainable tourism destination for tourists from the country and around the world.

Al Falasi said these positive results are a testament to the efficiency of the UAE’s policies to support and develop the country’s tourism industry, and that many of these indicators are approaching pre-pandemic growth rates.

“This shows a full recovery of the country’s tourism industry and confirms the positive direction it is gradually taking,” he said, adding that these results are a concerted effort by the government and the private tourism sector to efficiently provide an attractive and safe tourism environment for the country , Leading tourism services, strong comprehensiveness, diversified tourism destinations, distinctive features, and advanced tourism infrastructure.

Al Falasi also pointed out the importance of the major events and initiatives organised by the UAE in the past phases to achieve these results and provide great potential for the development of the country’s tourism industry.

“Expo 2020 Dubai attracts over 24 million visitors in 6 months, second edition of ‘World’s Most Beautiful Winter’ event generates Dh1.5 billion, attracting over 1.3 million in just one and a half years months of domestic tourists,” he said.

In addition, the Council showcased the efforts of the Tourism Satellite Account (TSA) stakeholders and Al Falasi reiterated the importance of all relevant stakeholders working together to support the TSA project and provide the necessary technical infrastructure and human resources for its development.

The UAE has also signed a cooperation and coordination agreement with the United Nations World Tourism Organization to support the development of this statistical system. In addition, TSA will improve the efficiency of the National Tourism Statistics System by measuring economic indicators of tourism and its contribution to the national economy and labor market.
