Soon, more returning Filipinos will have the opportunity to work in the Middle East — including the UAE, the government says.
Saudi Arabia alone hopes to provide about 1 million jobs for skilled Filipinos.
“There are a lot of vacancies in the tourism sector in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia — we’re talking about hotels, restaurants and resorts coming up,” said PY Caunan, undersecretary for policy and international cooperation at the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).
“Of course, the architecture is still included,” she added.
The official noted that the UAE has also indicated that they are looking for more skilled workers.
In a previous report, the government said the UAE needs more healthcare professionals.
“We anticipate a series of meetings and dialogues over the next few weeks with various stakeholders, including our OFWs (Of Filipinos), to understand the impact of private recruitment agencies and our OFWs on our deployment in the Philippines. All concerns. UAE,” Konan said in a report by the state-run Philippine News Agency (PNA).
Oman and Qatar have also expressed interest in bringing in more skilled Filipinos, the report said.
All of these vacancies will be part of DMW’s upcoming special recruitment program.
“(This) special recruitment program will ensure that people have greater flexibility when seeking employment in Saudi Arabia,” Konan said.

Employment opportunities are also available in many European countries, PNA said.
“We are about to sign a memorandum of cooperation (MOC) with Austria and other countries in Europe, including Portugal – a lot of countries are lining up,” Konan said.
Austria also needs healthcare workers, but the country has said it will need 200,000 workers in as many as 98 occupations.
