UAE: Senior officials say three weeks between flu vaccine and Covid vaccine-News

[ad_1]

A health official said on Monday that the minimum time between the Covid vaccine and the seasonal flu (cold and flu) vaccine should be at least three weeks.

Dr. Farida Al Hosani, Executive Director of the Department of Infectious Diseases of the Abu Dhabi Public Health Center, said that although the two vaccines are essential, the components of the two are completely different.

“Influenza vaccines have inactivated influenza virus particles, while Covid vaccines use different manufacturing methods depending on the manufacturing company and contain Covid-19 ingredients. We urge the community to vaccinate these two vaccines as soon as possible after the recommended three-week interval. “she says.

Dr. Farida delivered a speech at the launching ceremony of the annual National Seasonal Flue Awareness Campaign in 2021, which was promoted by the Ministry of Health and Prevention (Mohap) with the slogan “Protect yourself…Protect your community”.

Seasonal influenza is a rapidly spreading disease. The incidence of this disease is higher in the UAE winter from October to April.

When an infected person coughs, sneezes, or speaks, the virus spreads, spreading virus droplets into the air. Other methods of transmission include contact with surfaces or materials contaminated with influenza virus, followed by contact with mouth, nose or eyes.

Mohap officials also announced that starting this month, free vaccinations will be provided for high-risk groups in the UAE. All others can get the flu vaccine for a fee of Dh50 at government medical centers and private hospitals in the UAE.

In explaining the high-risk populations most vulnerable to airborne influenza viruses, Dr. Farida said: “The vaccine is free for pregnant women, children under 5 years of age, elderly people over 60 years of age, and people with other comorbidities, such as uncontrolled In addition, all locals (Emiratis) will be vaccinated for free, and it will provide adequate flu protection throughout the season.”
