UAE shines at 7th Asian Jiu-Jitsu Championships in Bangkok

BANGKOK: The UAE won the seventh Jiu-Jitsu Asian Championships in Bangkok, reaffirming the country’s dominance on the continent for the third consecutive year. The national team was in good condition throughout the whole process, with a high level of technology, and won 7 gold, 5 silver, 4 bronze and 16 medals.

The Philippine national team ranked second with four golds and two bronzes, and the South Korean team ranked third with one gold, three silvers and four bronzes.

The defending champions got off to a solid start in the title race as the UAE won seven medals on Sunday, the team’s first day of competition.

Theyab Alnuaimi (56kg), Mohamed Alsuwaidi (69kg) and Faisal Alkitbi (85kg) won gold for the team on day one, while Omar Alsuwaidi (56kg), Marwa Alhosani (70kg) and Saeed Alkubaisi (85kg kg) ) added silver coins. Balqees Abdulkareem won bronze in the 48kg category.

Omar Alfadli got off to a brilliant start for his team on Monday, taking gold in the adult 62kg category at the All-UAE final, while Khaled Alshehhi took silver. Gold medalist Hamdah Al Shkeili and silver medalist Aysha Alshamsi were also soon on the podium in the 45kg category.

Shamma Alkalbani defeated Indonesia’s Ilma Yeni Megawati to retain last year’s gold in the 63kg category. Abdullah Alkubaisi joined later and managed to win gold in the 94kg category, while compatriot Hazaea Farhan took bronze. UAE’s Mahdi Alawlaqi made the Falcons look even stronger, adding a bronze medal (77kg) to their total.
