“Honey, you’re safe here in my vibe,” the singer-songwriter exclaimed in his soulful voice, and as the passionate repertoire intensifies, one can understand why Danny is the most popular One of the welcome musicals in action in the UAE.
He has performed for international artists such as Calvin Harris, Pink and Katy Perry, and has been performing locally in the UAE for the past decade, blazing with his original music.tracks like this solo (2018) and when we are together (2021), as well as other releases through Universal Music MENA, resonated with listeners—his riveting music videos—often shot locally—add to their appeal.
north star Dubai-based Danny describes it as “a very passionate song that builds up in intensity during the chorus, while returning the listener to its calming and reassuring lyrics.” Its music video was filmed in Poland , which features a pair of excellent aerial performers whose performances reflect the strong emotions of the song.
We caught up with Danny to find out more.
listened to your latest song north star, We know it’s a presence, a “direction” that reassures loved ones. What emotion or life experience inspired you to write this article?
Whenever our world seems to be filled with uncertainty and we feel a little lost, we can always remember the people around us and the moments when we felt comfortable and at ease.
what do you want your audience to get out of it north star?
This song is about being someone’s guiding light and leading them on the right path. Just like the North Star has been used for guidance for hundreds of years.
The night sky often inspires many creative artists and dreamers who draw analogies to love and relationships through their interpretations of the night sky. What appeals to you about celebrities and how do they make you feel?
When our ancestors got lost, they often looked to the sky and used the North Star to navigate their terrain and get back on the right path. I want to play with the idea of being someone’s North Star, to be their light source in the dark and lead them on the right path.
We also love the music video, the aerial performers are breathtaking. Tell us more about the making of the video and how it complements the song.
Thanks! I met a pair of very talented aerial performers who choreographed an amazing choreography where they danced in each other’s arms and levitated in the air. It fits perfectly with the song because there are a lot of spatial references in the lyrics.
For example, when I say “lift off” we see them lift off from the ground. My favorite scene is when they hug each other in the air and you hear me singing “Honey, you’re safe in my atmosphere”.
As an artist, what inspires you every day?
People inspire me. Every song tells a story, whether it’s something I’ve experienced firsthand or what other people are going through.
As an artist, I have to have empathy and be able to write not only from my perspective, but from someone else’s.
What is the soundtrack of your life – who is the artist who has influenced you the most?
Probably that stupid tuba track on the loop, lol. Honestly, there are a lot of artists who have inspired me and I find myself drawn to songwriters who put a lot of heart and emotion into their songs.
People like Ray Charles and Amy Winehouse write songs and perform them from the heart, and they show it every time they’re on stage.
Are there specific music tracks that get stuck in your head easily?
I’m always writing and coming up with new melodies and song ideas, so it’s constantly changing!
As a local musician who regularly writes and performs in the UAE, are you happy that live performances are back after the pandemic and can we expect you to perform again soon?
Yes, I love the return of the live show, and I can tell from everyone I talked to in the audience at the last show that everyone else was excited too! Nothing feels more connected to an audience than live entertainment, so I’m always happy with live performances.
The best way to catch a live show is to follow me @DannyAridi on Instagram; I post all my latest show announcements there.
You are signed to Universal Music MENA. Is the support of major labels important for an independent artist like you? Creatively, do you feel like you have that freedom to create what you want?
Yes, the labels have changed and adapted over the years, and now the artist needs to be a complete assemblage to be successful. I am fortunate to have full creative freedom and have a great team at Universal to support my career.
Finally, how has the UAE supported your dream of becoming a musician? How has the music industry expanded and improved since you started working?
I’ve had the privilege of performing at some of the big music festivals and have opened doors for international shows like Backstreet Boys in Dubai and Bruno Mars in Abu Dhabi.
The music scene in the UAE is growing every year and I am proud to be a part of it.
