Aun Chaudhry, Tourism and Sports Advisor to the Prime Minister of Pakistan, said on Monday that the Pakistani government plans to launch direct flights from the UAE to Skardu, a scenic city in Gilgit-Baltistan.
A 25-member Pakistani delegation led by Chaudhry participated in the Arab Travel Market (ATM) 2023 in Dubai.
While emphasizing the country’s rich tourism potential, Chaudhry said in an exclusive interview with Gulf Today that direct flights from the UAE to Skardu will boost tourism in Pakistan’s northern regions.

“Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif is passionate about promoting tourism in the country. He directed me to take practical steps to implement these plans in partnership with the private sector. Pakistan has huge tourism potential. Our northern region is one of the most beautiful in the world . What we need is something that makes it easy for tourists to explore these areas,” he said.
“In order to promote tourism, we will declare Skardu Airport as an international airport and the UAE-Pakistan direct flight on this route will start operating soon. Pakistan is a safe country. The law and order situation is satisfactory. Our goal is Attract foreign tourists and develop tourism because it has huge potential,” he added.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) is in partnership with TDAP, Pearl Continental Hotels, Hashoo Group, Legend Hotels and Resorts, ComfiTrav Tourism, Meezab Group, Waljis Travels, Zeb Travels, Eventica, Black Glacier Tourism and Institute of Tourism and Hospitality Management.
Earlier, Chaudhry and Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, Pakistani Ambassador to the UAE, jointly inaugurated the Pakistan Pavilion at ATM 2023 in Dubai.
In his speech, Chahri also expressed appreciation for the efforts of PTDC in promoting tourism in Pakistan.
He encouraged the private sector to participate in ATM Dubai 2023 to strengthen business-to-business ties with counterparts in the Middle East and other countries, and to increase the flow of foreign tourists and investors into Pakistan.
He thanked the Pakistani Embassy in UAE and Pakistan Trade Development Agency for their efforts in supporting Pakistani exhibitors to participate in ATM 2023.
Tirmizi said at the opening ceremony that it is of great significance for Pakistan to participate in the Arab tourism market again after many years, which will help to promote Pakistan’s inbound tourism and establish a soft image of the country on a global scale.
This will provide more business-related opportunities for stakeholders in the private sector and bring foreign investment from the Middle East to Pakistan, he said.

He said that the Pakistani government is committed to promoting tourism to boost socio-economic development and job creation in the country.
Pakistan’s participation in the Arab tourism market will certainly increase the influx of foreign tourists to explore the country’s rich tourism potential.
On the first day, the Pakistan Pavilion attracted a large number of trade visitors, exhibitors, travel agents, social media influencers and media people to network with Pakistani exhibitors and get information about Pakistan’s rich tourism potential and travel packages.
Arabian Travel Market is the leading global event for the inbound and outbound travel industry in the Middle East.
For the past twenty-eight years, this annual event has connected travel service providers with buyers and travel trade visitors from around the world at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
Over 160 countries and 2,000 exhibitors from all over the world participated in this year’s ATM Show in Dubai.
The 30th edition of ATM is part of Arabian Tourism Week, a 10-day festival of events that fosters collaboration among industry professionals worldwide through exhibitions, conferences, breakfast briefings, awards, product launches and networking events.
