UAE sponsors 4th UN Police Chiefs Summit in New York

A delegation from the UAE Ministry of Interior participated in the third edition of UNCOPS 2022 from 31 August to 1 September 2022 with senior representatives from the New York area and professional police organizations. The event saw a significant presence of police chiefs working in UN missions around the world.

The summit aims to contribute to the promotion of international peace and security and the development of all people through the unifying force and the enabling role of the state. It also aims to enhance mutual understanding among existing and potential police, financial donors, the United Nations Secretariat and United Nations entities on what United Nations police need to carry out the various complex tasks assigned to them, including the protection of civilians, the rebuilding of the national police Serve, prevent crime and conflict, and maintain world peace.

UNCOPS 2022 is an opportunity for global police administrators and UN leadership to engage in discussions on how UN police and national police can support each other in addressing current and emerging global security challenges, including crises and natural and man-made events. They can benefit from the skills, knowledge and expertise that national police personnel have acquired from the United Nations, their police services and their populations.

During the event, a number of topics related to the role of the United Nations police in maintaining and making peace more sustainable, as well as ways to enhance coordination of efforts between the United Nations and the national police to ensure a better comprehensive response to global peace and security were discussed. any threat.

The delegation also participated in a session entitled “Application of Modern Technology in Law Enforcement” held during the summit. The conference discussed two main themes, Metaverse and Law Enforcement, and Artificial Intelligence and Law Enforcement.

During the meeting, the second virtual joint exercise by the countries of the International Security Alliance and the AI ​​for Child Safety initiative in partnership with the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) were reviewed.
