Abu Dhabi: Students from Abu Dhabi recently participated in a chess tournament as part of the second edition of the 42nd Abu Dhabi Chess Championship.
The event was held on Thursday at Campus 42 in Abu Dhabi in partnership with Abu Dhabi Chess Club and Puzzle Games.
Sultan Al Zaabi, former Arab Chess Champion, Chess Master and UAE President’s Cup Champion, and Latifah Al Darmaki, Arab Chess Olympiad and UAE President’s Cup medalist, all participated. .
In addition, Sultan Aldamaki, the former UAE Presidents Cup Junior Champion and multiple medal winner of the UAE National Chess Championship, also participated in the competition.
42 Launched in 2020, Abu Dhabi is an initiative of the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) and Abu Dhabi’s Ghadan 21 accelerator programme.

The tournament provided an interactive learning opportunity for 42 Abu Dhabi coding students to witness some of the most advanced strategies used in professional chess. In the competition, the students competed with the champion.
Obada Outabachi took 1st place in the Chess Championship, Allan Thekkepeedika 2nd, German Chernysh 3rd, Abu Baker Al Seri 4th and Abdul Samad Pila Valappil 5th. Award-winning students were awarded prizes and encouraged to participate in interactive activities organized by the school.
42 Abu Dhabi’s acting chief executive, Marcos Muller Habig, said hosting the second edition of the tournament also meant “going beyond coding skills to prepare students for full-fledged careers”. Students compete against globally recognized chess players and “learn about the values ​​that chess embodies, such as strategic thinking and people skills,” he added.
