[ad_1]

15,000 kilograms of fruit from Al Jabri farm has never been on the market.

Mohammed Al Jabri’s huge farm in Ras Al Khaimah can harvest 15,000 kilograms of dates each year, but none of them are brought to the market.

He told Khaleej Times: “The dates grown on my farm cannot be sold.” Instead, piles of dates are packed in crates and boxes and delivered directly to people in need.

Philanthropists and businessmen say that charity is the sole purpose of Al Jabri Farm. His generous donations even reached the Indian states of Karnataka and Kerala.

The farm has planted more than 800 date palms of different varieties, which are managed and taken care of by four Bangladeshi foreigners. But the CEO of MOJ Group Mohammed visits every week.

“We treat palm trees as family members. My father also owns a farm where he planted several trees, and each date has a name. The Arabs’ emotional bond to date palms is unparalleled,” he said.

Once all the dates for the charity are ready for transportation, anything left after the harvest will be shared with family and friends.

Dates in UAE history

The date palm itself is an important part of UAE heritage and community life. This tree is praised for its many uses, it is more than just a food source. Its trunk is used to build houses, and its leaves and leaves are woven into handicrafts that shape the traditions of the UAE.

“People in the Arab region rely on palm trees in many ways-from building houses to making carpets, boxes, bags, hand fans, ropes, etc.,” Mohammed said.

Each date palm grows and matures at different stages, and the Arabs call them Kimri, Bisr, Rutub, and Tamar.

Kimri refers to green jujubes that are hard and uneaten, while Bisr refers to bright yellow or red fruits that are still hard and crisp but edible.

The rutabaga stage is when the fruit part turns brown and softens at the tip, which is very suitable for eating. This is when the date is usually given as a gift to relatives and friends.

Tamar means that the fully mature fruit turns amber or dark brown, and the texture varies from pliable to hard. The final stage of the date palm is the date palm in the supermarket and is exported to many countries.

Muhammad explained: “Tamar is kept in the refrigerator all year long and is provided to those who are not lucky enough to eat iftar during Ramadan.”

An evolving industry

The UAE has always attached great importance to agricultural development, especially agriculture so far. It is the sixth largest date exporter in the world.

Every year, various dates and festivals are held in different regions of the country to promote the exchange of knowledge and expertise, and to encourage farmers to innovate and adopt modern agricultural methods.

This particular focus is reflected in the expansion of agricultural resources and investment, and the rapid increase in the number of palm trees planted on the UAE’s land.

Omar Al Jabri, Mohammed’s son and general manager of the MOJ Group, explained the method used at the Ras Al Khaimah farm: “In March, we experienced high temperatures. This is the time when the seeds are fertilized. The date palm fertilization depends entirely on the weather. This is what The reason why the date is called fakihat algait (summer fruit).

“Dating requires high temperatures. We got all the dates from July to August, and now we are in the peak season for dating.”

In the early days, the people of the Arabian Peninsula only relied on fish, and dates and dates were considered a symbol of respect.

“In the past, the number of palm trees determined your value in society. Without workers, all jobs were for family members to plant farms,” Omar said.

For the Al Jabri family, the date palm is not only the tree of life, but also the tree of knowledge. “The lesson the date palm teaches us is huge. It takes a lot of patience, perseverance and hard work to make the tree bear fruit. We apply the same concept in our business,” Omar said.
