A new programming school will become a disruptive force in the education field-it is open 24/7, with no classrooms or teachers, and students here participate in various real-world projects instead of boring courses.
42 Abu Dhabi is an innovative concept with the idea that everyone should have the opportunity to develop their talents. This tuition-free school means that everyone has no barriers and equal opportunities. The motivation of learning is the driving force that pushes students forward.
The school is located in the Mina Zayed warehouse district in Abu Dhabi and is open 24/7. The purpose-built 42-seat Abu Dhabi warehouse park adopts an open space design with a new-age industrial feel, including the most advanced coding laboratory using the latest technology, as well as many interactive smart spaces, party lounges, auditoriums, creative rooms, Dining room and rest space. The school enrolled its first batch of students in September 2021.

Students must participate in person and learn from each other through collaboration in huge laboratories (the core of every 42 schools). There are 252 iMacs in the lab—one for each student.
The school aims to cultivate creativity, collaboration and self-discipline by allowing students to learn independently without classrooms or teachers.
“We believe that the best way to learn is to learn from each other. Collaboration, communication, and problem solving are just some of the basic skills that students will learn through our peer-to-peer learning model,” 42 Abu Dhabi CEO Leonardo Filardi told a media interview on Wednesday Khaleej Times.
“The school’s curriculum is based on three methods, namely project-based learning, peer-to-peer learning, and gamification. Students earn points during the learning process. In order to make progress in the curriculum, students must rely on collective sharing and adjustment of information based on collective wisdom.”

No coding experience required
42 Abu Dhabi’s Chief Technology Officer Marcos Muller-Habig said that the school is open to anyone 18 years and older, and candidates do not need previous coding experience or academic qualifications.
“The 42 successful Abu Dhabi students are ambitious and talented. They are loyal, active, curious, creative and adaptable. The school attracts the best regional talents from different backgrounds and nationalities,” he said.
As part of the 42 inaugural selection process for Abu Dhabi students, 401 candidates participated in three “Piscines” pre-selections between May and August. 225 candidates successfully passed the 26-day immersive motivation, endurance and commitment test and joined 42 Abu Dhabi on September 26, 2021.
Emirati accounted for 43% of the inaugural cohort. Among them, nearly three quarters (70%) are women. The enrollment rate of foreign students is 57%. Almost all (93%) students live in the UAE. Of the total, 60% are men and 40% are women. More than three-quarters (81%) of people are between 18-30 years old.
Registration requires registration and online pre-selection assessment, and cognitive ability is assessed through logic and memory tests. Successful pre-selected candidates will then be invited to participate in “Piscine”, and candidates will be invited to join the program.
Allan Joe, 24, a 42-year-old Indian student in Abu Dhabi, said that since the Covid-19 outbreak and the importance of technology, he has thought of coding.
“I looked back on my past and realized that I didn’t explore coding while in college. When I found out that it was important to me, I found about 42 Abu Dhabi and used this opportunity to join,” Joe told Khaleej Times.
“When I entered Piscine, which was a 26-day intensive training camp, I realized that coding is fun, especially the point-to-point part of the program. In many programs, you have to work with others to solve problems. You have to do it yourself Study because there is no teacher to teach you. You need to go online to solve the problem yourself, or try to solve the problem with someone who has already solved the problem.”
Another Russian citizen, Anastasiia Nifantova, said that she had no coding knowledge before, but 42 Abu Dhabi provided her with a healthy and rich exchange of ideas through cooperation with other students And the practical basis of learning.
“You need to cooperate with others and you must teach yourself. This is an enjoyable school, because every day is a new day, a new challenge…” she said.
42 Abu Dhabi is the first GCC campus of the internationally renowned 42 coding school network, which opened its first complex in Paris in 2013. The school is a Ghadan 21 accelerator program established in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Ministry of Education and Knowledge (ADEK).
