UAE to be Afghanistan’s ‘home’ in next five years

[ad_1]

DUBAI: The United Arab Emirates will host Afghanistan’s “home” matches for the next five years, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) said on Sunday.

Security concerns have kept touring teams away from Afghanistan, where they have played “home” games in India in recent years. This perception has only deepened since the Taliban took over the country in August 2021.

The Cricket Board said in a statement that as part of the agreement, tryout nation Afghanistan will play an annual three-match T20 series with second-tier UAE teams.

Mubashir Usmani, Secretary-General of the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB), said in a statement: “…we are delighted to support the ACB in ensuring they provide a home for the game of cricket. .”

“We also thank the Afghanistan Cricket Board for agreeing to play a series of T20I matches with the UAE every year.

“This will provide valuable opportunities for our UAE team and help them develop.”

The ECB will also provide logistical support to the ACB, including visa assistance and office space.

ACB chief executive Naseeb Khan hopes the “fruitful agreement” will serve the future goals of both boards.

The UAE has hosted Pakistan’s “home” matches in the past and also hosted last year’s T20 World Cup after the exhibit had to be moved out of India following the COVID-19 crisis.
