UAE to overhaul its immigration laws from October 3, NRI expected to benefit

[ad_1]

Non-resident Indians (NRIs), especially Keralas who make up the largest share of the Gulf diaspora, are pleased with the reshuffle of immigration policies in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) that came into effect on October 3.

They say the new visa rules are very beneficial to expats, investors and tourists visiting the Gulf Cooperation Council country. “Multiple-entry visitor visas are sympathetic to NRI students studying in India or other countries. Additionally, newcomers allow expats to bring their family and friends to the UAE for a longer stay,” Abu Dhabi-based legal advisor Rajesh Rudran said.

The advanced visa system includes a 10-year extended golden visa scheme, 5-year green residency and new entry permits, including job seeker permits. The multiple-entry tourist visa allows tourists to stay in the UAE for up to 90 days, while the five-year green visa benefits skilled workers, freelancers and the self-employed.

The degree holder’s work exploration visa does not require a sponsor or host. It will be awarded to those at the first, second or third skill level as defined by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation as well as recent graduates of Fortune 500 universities. Parents can also sponsor their boys until the age of 25, starting at 18, allowing them to stay in the UAE after completing their studies and university courses.

The amendments to the golden visa allow more professionals in the fields of medicine, science and engineering, information technology, business and management to obtain a 10-year visa with a monthly salary of AED 30,000 (approximately Rs 670,000). In addition, these visa holders can sponsor any number of domestic helpers and their visas will remain valid regardless of the number of days they stay outside the UAE.

Under the new system, expats will also receive a flexible grace period of up to six months after their residence visa expires. The existing grace period is 30 days.

Salahuddin Hassan, MD, who is affiliated with ATC Group in Dubai, said the multiple entry and work exploration visas will encourage investors and SMEs to explore business and investment opportunities in the UAE.

“The Work Exploration visa will allow companies to have timely access to experts to complete projects quickly,” he added.
