The Qatar FIFA World Cup is scheduled to run from November 20 to December 18 and is expected to bring thousands of fans to the UAE. Held every four years, football is one of the most anticipated sporting events in the world.
Khaleej Times rounds up some of the most important events that will take place during sporting events in the country
1. Fan Zone
DIFC Football Park Fan Area
The Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) will host a unique Football Park fan zone, bringing together Michelin-starred restaurants, butler service and fan concierge services. These tickets will go on sale on September 15th. Fans will be able to watch the race on the big screen on the Gate Avenue podium.
Sports Enthusiasts Zone, Habtoor Grand
Join 1,500 other football fans at the Habtoor Grand Resort fan area located in a garden tent. Hearty food, live shows and games on the big screen will be a treat for all football fans.
2. Hotels
During this period, room rates are expected to surge by 20%, and hotels are expected to operate at 100% capacity. Here are some hotels offering special packages for the Qatar World Cup:
NH Hotel
Sports tourism agency Expat Sports has partnered with NH Hotels to offer a unique experience called The Dubai Football Fan Experience. Guests can enjoy a package that includes daily flights to Qatar, free shuttle bus to Dubai Fan District and other perks.

3. Flights
The UAE’s three airlines – Etihad Airways, Air Arabia and flydubai – have announced shuttle services to Qatar, with more than 60 daily flights between the two countries.
Only those with a valid match ticket can travel on these flights. On some airlines, passengers are only allowed 10kg of hand luggage, and checked luggage is not allowed on this flight. The flyer also requires a Hayya card to enter the stadium and take advantage of free transport to and from the stadium by the Doha Metro.
In addition to this, several private jet companies, including DC Aviation Al-Futtaim and JetzHub, are offering services during this period.
4. Visa
The UAE has introduced a special multiple entry visa for those who will travel to the country to watch the World Cup in Qatar. Holders of the ‘Hayya’ card with tickets for World Cup matches can use this visa to enter and stay in the UAE for 90 days for only AED 100. The visa can be extended for a further 90 days according to the conditions, procedures and normal fees followed by the current visa regime in the UAE.
