UAE universities prepare students for future jobs

Lifelong learning is the new buzzword for those curious about the future of work. In the UAE, universities are taking steps to ensure students develop a mindset of self-development so that they can continue their studies and careers of choice after leaving the traditional classroom environment and be prepared for the future of work.

This was highlighted by Professor Tadhg O’Donovan, Vice-Chancellor for Academic Leadership and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences, Heriot-Watt University, Dubai, when he elaborated on the role of lifelong learning in the future of work.

Enhance problem solving

“Lifelong learning has always been a key factor for success in any field,” said Professor O’Donovan. “Currently, it has become even more important as we witness dynamic changes in the way we live and work. Today, learning is a tool for resilience and adaptability. Another aspect of learning that is not widely discussed is how it enhances a Human problem-solving and critical thinking are two of the most in-demand soft skills in the market today.

Drawing attention to the critical role the Fourth Industrial Revolution will play in the future of work, Hanil Das, founder and CEO of Westford University College, says lifelong learning is not an option but a necessity.
