Abu Dhabi: The UAE University delegation visited the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) headquarters in Geneva to strengthen research cooperation between the two parties. The University delegation was led by Professor Ahmed Ali Murad, Associate Provost for Research. The delegation also included Prof. Maamar Benkraouda, Dean of the Faculty of Science, Prof. Taieb Znati, Dean of the Faculty of Information Technology, Prof. Salah Nasri, and Postdoctoral Fellow Dr. Mohamed Bulfaqir from the Faculty of Physics, Faculty of Science, UAEU and research members of the Atlas project.

Professor Ahmed Ali Murad, Deputy Provost for Research, explained that the university places great emphasis on research collaborations with international scientific institutions, which strengthens the university’s global position. This research collaboration has had a positive impact on the quality of research output, thereby contributing to a qualitative leap in the World University Rankings. These partnerships include a collaboration with the Atlas project, one of CERN’s projects, where UAE University is collaborating with several national universities on this important particle physics-related project, which begins in August 2021. This research and qualitative collaboration resulted in the publication of 23 research papers on the Scopus database.

Initially, the UAE University delegation met with Andreas Hoecker, the official spokesperson for the Atlas project, who welcomed the delegation and outlined the project and future plans, as Emirates University is part of the project’s research team. The delegation then visited CERN’s data center and participated in a presentation on the center’s development and data processes.

Dr. Mohamed Bulfaqir, a postdoctoral fellow, UAEU and research member of the Atlas project, explained the positive research results of UAEU’s participation in the project as an active member and the next phase of action plans by increasing the number of members of the project team from the fields of physics, software and computer science at UAEU. Finally, the delegation visited the Savoy-Mont-Blanc University in Annecy, France, and visited the university’s data center.
