Al Ain: The University of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has received the Academic Institution Contribution Award from the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) in the Middle East. The society specializes in geophysical exploration and its various applications.
The awarding ceremony was held in Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia as part of the celebration of the 10th anniversary of SEG Middle East. Professor Ahmed Ali Murad, Associate Provost for Research, received the award from Kenneth Tobman, Chair of the 2022-2023 Session.
Professor Ahmed Murad emphasized that the award represents one of the fruits of the effective knowledge and educational role offered by UAE universities, reflecting the enormous impact of contributions of science, education and research in various fields. UAE universities contribute to the creation of unique competitive opportunities by equipping students with the knowledge, tools and skills of the future. The award enhances the University’s status as the University of the Future through high-quality academic and research educational outcomes. Through its strategic partnerships, UAE universities emphasize the importance of knowledge exchange for the benefit of all parties.
Professor Ahmed Murad elaborated on the technical and research contributions and partnerships with society at UAE universities since organizing the 3rd International Conference on Engineering Geophysics in 2015, making the conference one of the best five international conferences in the past five years – Fourth session in 2017.
He added that the University’s contributions are varied and include faculty involvement in the social sciences and advisory committees for conferences, forums and workshops. These contributions have enabled the Social Office in the Middle East to continue to engage with many institutions in the region and share best practices and knowledge.
Three faculty members from the Department of Earth Sciences at the UAE University were also honored, namely Prof. Haydar Bakr and Dr. Khaled Saleh Al Balooshi for their active roles in the Volunteer Committee and Prof. Hakim Saibi for his prominent role in the Science and Academic Committees.
