An updated list of regulations to follow when taking photographs for identification purposes has been published.
The federal Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security Administration (ICP) has published a list of specifications that an International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) compliant photo must meet in order to be accepted by its smart readers.
picture: The images themselves must be of high quality. It must be in color and must not be older than six months.
The size of the photo must be 35mm X 40mm.
background: The background of the image must be white
feature: Neutral, natural expressions must be maintained; they must never be exaggerated
Head position: The head must be straight, not tilted, and must be parallel to the camera lens
Eye: Opens towards the camera, no tinted lenses
Glasses: Acceptable as long as it does not cover the eyes and does not reflect light
Dress Code: Official dress code in the UAE (citizens)
Headgear: Allowed according to ethnic dress or religious beliefs
Resolution (pixels): At least 600 dpi with no ink marks or shrinkage
Images edited using digital software will not be accepted, the authority added
