According to travel agencies in the emirates of Abu Dhabi and Dubai, the extension of UAE visitor visas without leaving the country has been halted.

Speaking to the Khaleej Times, a Dubai-based travel agency said: “Today, the immigration department informed us that the extension of visitor visas without leaving the country has been stopped. Usually, it is domestic visas, so people need not leave the UAE.

“Earlier, there was some relaxation due to the Covid-19 pandemic, people were not required to leave the country. But now the relaxation has been lifted. That is the message we have received from the immigration department.”

Community members discussed the development extensively on Facebook groups and other social media platforms.

An Abu Dhabi-based travel agency said the condition of visa renewals outbound was a standard procedure followed in the days leading up to the pandemic.

“At home, renewals and extensions of visitor visas have stopped. You should leave the country and apply. This is similar to the norms followed in the days before the pandemic. We are now back to normal, so the relaxation has been withdrawn”

Another travel agency, from Dubai, is still awaiting official confirmation and said there was an error in the process and the application was rejected.

“Yes, the visitor visa application was rejected. We are waiting for official confirmation. Last month, the immigration department shortened the 90-day visa period to 60 days,” he said.
