Authorities stress importance of preventive measures in affected areas
The UAE capital Abu Dhabi is expected to experience changeable weather from Sunday, August 14 to Thursday, August 18, as cumulus clouds form light to heavy rain and temperatures drop significantly.
The Abu Dhabi Media Office has advised the public to drive with caution and follow safety guidelines and speed limits. “When it rains, stay alert and stay away from rain creeks, valleys and rain pools,” the statement said.
“During periods of turbulent seas and high tides, avoid going to the beach and continue to monitor weather forecasts only through official channels,” the statement added.
On Friday, the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Agency (NCEMA) said it organized an emergency meeting with departments to discuss their preparedness for the upcoming weather scenario.
Officials from the Department of Defense, Interior and Police Commands, the National Center for Meteorology (NCM) and the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure attended the meeting, NCEMA said in a press release.
“This meeting is part of a series of follow-up and coordination meetings between the relevant authorities to confirm the state’s readiness to respond to weather conditions and limit their impact,” the statement said.
During the meeting, the NCM reported the latest developments in weather conditions and their impact on the country. By the end of the week, the eastern and southern regions will extend the low pressure with varying intensities of rain, the center said.
According to the National Weather Center report, the Interior and Energy and Infrastructure ministries reviewed measures taken to mitigate the effects of weather conditions in potentially affected areas.
