Following the morning fog, UAE authorities warned residents of a foggy night Saturday to Sunday morning.

In an alert issued Saturday, the National Center for Meteorology (NCM) said horizontal visibility across the country would be affected from 11pm Friday to 8.30am Saturday due to fog formation. It said fog formation could be stronger in some inland and coastal areas.

Authorities urged road users and motorists to take precautions and follow traffic instructions to stay safe. In another alert, Abu Dhabi Police called on motorists to exercise caution as fog reduces visibility and to obey changing speed limits displayed on electronic information boards.

UAE residents woke up in the wee hours of the morning on Friday morning to a thick fog blanketing the country. Visibility has been affected across the UAE, from Al Ain to Ras Al Khaimah.

Temperatures will start to drop this month, especially at night, the National Weather Service (NCM) said in its September climate report released Thursday morning.

“The gradual weakening of the Indian monsoon depression means low desert heat over the Arabian Peninsula, accompanied by relatively fresh winds, resulting in dust and sometimes poor horizontal visibility,” the NCM report said.

“It is still possible that cumulonimbus clouds associated with rain and thunder will form in the eastern part of the county. These may extend into the interior areas, causing rainfall of varying intensities.”
