The National Weather Center said heavy rain and thunderstorms were expected later in the week. In a social media post shared today, the NCM explained the weather conditions in the country as of Saturday, January 7.
Speaking to Gulf News on Tuesday, a senior meteorologist from the National Center of Meteorology said that “cloudy to partly cloudy weather is expected into Thursday in the coastal and northern emirates. This includes Dubai, Sharjah, Arab Djiman, Umm Al Quwain and Ras Al Khaimah.”
He added that rain was expected to intensify on Friday and Saturday. “The trough of low pressure is expected to deepen and widen at the same time. The UAE will see rain of varying intensity over the two days. Lightning, thunder and downpours are expected along the coast, north and east – meaning much of the UAE , including the coastal areas of Abu Dhabi, the islands off the coast of Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Ras Al Khaimah. Temperatures are also expected to drop significantly this week.
The highest temperature recorded across the country today was 29.4°C, the NCM said.
The NCM official added that the temperature in the country will drop significantly. “Temperatures will drop across the country, with a difference of 4 to 6°C across most of the country. However, some areas may not see any temperature change, or only a difference of 2 to 3°C.”
