UAE: What to do if your WhatsApp account is hacked-News

[ad_1]

This social media application is one of the most widely used chat platforms in the UAE and globally.

The Emirates Telecom and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) have issued reminders to residents on what to do if their WhatsApp account is hacked.

WhatsApp is one of the most widely used chat platforms in the UAE and around the world. Therefore, scammers often try to use their popularity to hack into accounts and obtain sensitive information.

The authorities advise residents to immediately send an email to the WhatsApp technical support team in case they encounter this situation. Hackers can send an email to support@whatsapp.com and mention “Lost/Stolen: Please deactivate my account”.

Residents are also required to provide their mobile phone +9715xxxxxxxx to the WhatsApp support team in the following format.

It advises residents to delete the app and reinstall it at different times of the day. It also recommends reinstalling the application every day.

As the Khaleej Times recently reported, WhatsApp phishing has generally been on the rise since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Cybersecurity experts say that linking messaging apps to social media accounts means that the latter can also be used in phishing attacks.

“For example, WhatsApp is owned and can be linked to Facebook, so an account violation for one service may compromise another service. The general best practice is to use two-factor authentication and set a different password for each account. Use a trusted strong password generator to manage your passwords,” said Haider Pasha, Palo Alto Networks’ Chief Security Officer for the Middle East and Africa (MEA).

The Emirati Telecom and Digital Government Regulatory Authority requires that WhatsApp users in this country notify their relatives and friends if they have been hacked, and urges them not to reply to any messages sent from your WhatsApp account before recovery.
