Court orders her to settle bills
A young woman who used a friend’s credit card to pay traffic fines worth Dh69,000 in Abu Dhabi has been ordered to repay the man.
The order was issued by the Abu Dhabi Court of Family and Civil and Administrative Claims after the Arab woman refused to make any payments. She claimed the man wanted to help her and allowed her to use the card as a “gift”.
However, court records show that the Arab man filed a lawsuit against her, demanding that she return her credit card and settle the Dh69,369 bill.
The man told the court that while he confirmed it was he who handed her the card, the woman should have loaded it so she could use it to do some online shopping.
The woman reportedly used her credit card to pay the traffic fine. The plaintiff said she never deposited any money for the card.
During the trial, the woman admitted to using her credit card to pay the traffic fine, but insisted it was a gift and no payment agreement was reached.
However, the court rejected her claim. In addition to paying the man, the woman was ordered to bear the plaintiff’s legal costs.
