Dubai – Over 4,000 visitors registered this year, with over 90 exhibitors
The 72nd International Astronautical Congress (IAC), the world’s largest and most prestigious global space event, kicked off Monday at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
The 5-day event will run until October 29 with the theme of “Inspiration, Innovation and Discovery for Humanity”.
For the first time in the Middle East, it aims to contribute to humanity and science by strengthening cooperation among all nations in the space sector.
It is organized by the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) in partnership with the International Astronautical Federation (IAF).
An overview of the UAE’s achievements in space since its inception, as well as the launch of the first Emirati astronaut Hazaaa Al Mansouri into space, the success of the UAE’s first interplanetary mission, Al Amal (Hope Probe), the selection of two new astronauts and other milestone events. Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, Chairman of MBRSC, highlighted all these missions, which have unprecedented scientific goals to inspire Emirati youth and strengthen the UAE’s contribution to the advancement of human science.
He said: “Through the Hope Probe, we hope to replant hope in the hearts of millions of people in the region. We hope to bring this ambition and science to an infinite horizon that will lead to future collaborations and interactions.
“We want to see the seeds of hope thrive. Our leaders have always believed in the wisdom of: ‘If you want to thrive for a year, plant food, if you want to thrive for 10 years, plant trees, if you want to thrive for 100 years. “Prosperity, development of people. This is what the UAE is doing, empowering young people who are designing the future of the country. “
“Now we will be exploring a new planet, Venus, before the end of the next decade. I hope that over the next five days we will see fruitful discussions between different stakeholders, space agencies and institutes from around the world discussions, sharing their strategies and future aspirations for the industry,” added Al Mansoori.
The UAE celebrates its golden jubilee this year in an effort to lay a solid foundation for the UAE’s aerospace industry.

Over 110 national delegations and 350 young professionals and space experts from all walks of life gathered in the Middle East for the space event of a lifetime.
According to Professor Pascale Ehrenfreund, President of the International Astronautical Federation,
“The UAE has a dynamic and ambitious space sector. My deepest gratitude goes to the host organisation, MBRSC, with whom we have worked closely over the past few years on this exciting conference. In 2021, the The industry has been fruitful. NASA’s Perseverance rover has been searching for signs of life on Mars, and our Chinese colleagues have made impressive progress on their Mars missions Tianwen-1 and the launch of the Tiangong space station. Virgin Galactic, SpaceX, Blue Origin and Roscosmos have carried out a number of astronaut and astronaut missions. The UAE Hope Probe, which is currently studying the atmosphere of Mars, is an amazing testament to what the UAE has achieved in space.”
“Space is a dynamic field. This sector will influence the overall social and economic development of the world in the years to come.
