UAE’s MoEI wins ‘Excellence in Governance – Maritime’ award


The UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI) has been honored with the ‘Excellence in Governance – Maritime’ award at the ShipTek International Maritime Awards 2023.

The recognition underscores the ministry’s efforts to strengthen maritime operations and enhance the attractiveness of the UAE’s ports and the maritime services offered.

Hassan Mohamed Juma Al-Mansoori, Undersecretary for Infrastructure and Transport at the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, said: “These achievements are a recognition of our efforts to transform the UAE into a global center for innovation in maritime services, while also promoting economic and environmental sustainability. sustainability, ensuring gender equality in the sector and establishing a robust legal framework.”

Al-Mansoori added: “At MoEI, we have always ensured that our aim to develop and strengthen alternative economic components of the oil sector is in line with the country’s ambitious goals and plans, such as Project 50. One of the world’s largest oil export ports and more than 20 leading international seaports.

“Some of our ports are among the top 10 internationally in terms of container throughput. These achievements are indeed the result of our tireless efforts and contributions from all industry stakeholders. Together, we have enhanced the UAE’s global competitiveness in the maritime sector.”

Eng Hessa Al Malek, Adviser to the Minister of Maritime Affairs, said: “We have been committed to the overall development of the maritime industry. Our focus has been on industry themes, including promoting the adoption of modern technology and digital solutions, promoting quality innovation, strengthening maritime safety standards, and protecting local and global marine environment.

“Through our membership in the IMO Council, we have addressed some of the above issues such as introducing fundamental amendments to protect the environment and holding seminars to implement international maritime regulations and standards.”

Eng Al Malek added: “In the UAE, we have launched several groundbreaking initiatives including ‘Support Our Blues’ and ‘Salmeen’ to improve the quality of life of UAE seafarers, ‘She of Caliber’ to empower women in maritime, “Safe navigation” protects the marine environment, strengthens maritime security, and protects the lives of the people.

“We have also launched the ‘UAE Maritime Cluster’, an umbrella for local and federal governments and private organizations in the maritime sector, and the ‘UAE Maritime Network’, which aims to promote the country as a global maritime hub and an ideal destination for maritime investment. In line with the UAE’s wise leadership, we now hope to build on our achievements and not only help the industry progress, but also enable the country to transform into a sustainable, diversified and integrated economy.”
