Sheikh Sultan bin Khalifa bin Shakhbout Al Nahyan of the UAE has been elected as the president of the Asian Chess Federation for a fifth term until 2026.

Sheikh Sultan dedicated his victory to the wise leadership of the UAE, its people and the country’s glorious sport.

The victory was an international recognition of the UAE’s prestigious position in chess, thanks to the continued support of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

With this victory, Sheikh Sultan retained his position as a member of the Council of Presidents of the International Chess Federation (FIDE), the highest administrative body for chess.

Chess has grown rapidly in this country, with several talented young players emerging in recent years.

Last year, Dubai also hosted the World Chess Championship between Magnus Carlsen and Ian Nepomniacic during Expo 2020.
