UAE’s world-class education leaves no one behind: Minister

The Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi recently celebrated its 13th class of graduates with a grand graduation ceremony attended by Reem Bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Abu Dhabi Sorbonne University, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation, and Professor Nathalie Drach – Temam, Rector of the Sorbonne University and Vice-Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Sorbonne University in Abu Dhabi.

Emirati graduates make up 54% of the Class of 2022, with the 13th class comprising 233 graduates, including 145 Bachelors, 73 Masters and 15 Executive Diploma graduates. The ceremony also marked the graduation of the first 35 Bachelor of Records Management and Archival Science students. Graduates come from the following departments; French Studies, Applied Foreign Languages, Geography and Planning, History, Archeology and Art History, Law, Economics and Management, Philosophy and Sociology, Science and Engineering, Physical Education.

During the graduation ceremony, Reem Bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy congratulated the Class of 2022 and praised them for their achievements. Al Hashimy praised the diversity of the class, stressing that it embodies the university’s motto, “Bridges Between Civilizations”.

Addressing graduates, Al Hashimy said: “Adaptation is of course another part of the DNA of the United Arab Emirates. Like you, the country is young, flexible and forward-looking, but not so young anymore and championing Empathy, understanding and collaboration are unambiguous. What is evident is that we have built a world-class education system that leaves no one behind, driven by the continued embrace of technology, grounded in gender equality and inclusion, and built on the Underpinned by unparalleled creativity and innovation.”

Professor Nathalie Drach-Temam expressed her pride in the graduates and commended the contribution of staff, administration and departments to the success of students and graduates. She also explained how these efforts truly exemplify the University’s mission to provide excellent French-language educational opportunities aimed at developing global leaders and thinkers, fostering dialogue, and creating harmony among cultures and civilizations.

After the presentation, Reem Al Hashimy was joined by Prof. Nathalie Drach-Temam and Prof. Silvia Serrano, Vice-Chancellor of the Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi; degrees were conferred by Prof. Philipe Didier, Dean of the Faculty of Law, Economics and Management of the Sorbonne University, and Dr. Laurence Renault, Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs .

Fatima Mughis, a top student at the Sorbonne, told Gulf Today her experience at the ceremony was nothing short of magical.

She added that her work with the Sorbonne began with a French diploma, then she obtained a LL.B. and now she is at the top of her master’s programme.

Mughis further added, “Through this journey, I have learned to replace the idiom ‘Blood, Sweat & Tears’ with ‘Hardwork, Books & 3Cs – Concentration, Confidence and Control’. You throw a lot of curve balls. You will have some successes and many failures, but in those successes and failures, if one stands up and perseveres with grace, smile, integrity, candor, love and laughter, it all brings You mold into an ultimate champion.”

“The Sorbonne is full of people – students, professors, administrators, we are not just colleagues. We are a network of connections.”

“If I could sum it up in 4 words, I would say my future plans are InshaAllah serving humanity and giving back and giving back. If you are asking about academics, I would like to study law, economics, health, technology and governance PhD,” concluded Mughis.

Emirati graduate Suhail Majed Mefareg Alameri also told reporters that he is proud of the milestone. He pointed out that the UAE is a center of quality and an up-to-date education system. He mentioned that he will continue his studies, adding that he plans to pursue a Certified Internal Auditor degree and pursue a Ph.D.
