UAE’s Yahsat targets new partnerships in Asia-Pacific

Yahsat Asia Week showcased innovative solutions from its mobile division, Thuraya, and explored opportunities for new partnerships in the Asia-Pacific region.

The UAE’s flagship satellite solutions provider, Al Yah Satellite Communications Company (Yahsat), organized ‘Yahsat Asia Week’ in Singapore from 5-9 June 2023, a series of industry-focused events as part of its ongoing efforts to Part of strengthening the influence is in the global market.

“Yahsat Asia Week” includes Yahsat’s first-ever Asia Partner Conference, bringing together service partners from 8 countries in the region under the theme “Partner Pioneers” and participation in CommunicAsia 2023 and Asia Satellite Business Week. During Asia Week, Thuraya Telecommunications Company, the group’s mobile arm, will showcase its latest and best-selling solutions and services as it aims to grow in the Asia-Pacific market through new business opportunities.

Satellite Communications Market

The Asia Pacific satellite communication market is projected to grow at a CAGR of 8.5% between 2022 and 2032. As a result, Thuraya recognized a surge in demand for satellite services in the region. Regional service and technology partners learned about Yahsat’s regional growth strategy and received an exclusive preview of Thuraya’s next-generation broadband solutions at the Asia Partner Conference on June 5.

More than 25 entities from across the region participated, representing key markets such as Vietnam, Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Korea, China, Indonesia and Australia. It focuses on areas of higher growth and profitability across various industry verticals such as enterprise, consumer, maritime and government. Developed in partnership with industry leader Cobham SATCOM, Thuraya’s next-generation broadband solutions address strategically important and diverse market segments in the Internet of Things (IoT) and maritime sectors.

The meeting concluded with an exciting racing-style sailing event, showcasing the strengths of Thuraya’s marine portfolio while helping to build stronger relationships between the partners.

At CommunicAsia 2023, Thuraya showcased its award-winning solutions, including Thuraya MarineStar and Thuraya Push-to-Talk (PTT), popular for their versatility, flexibility and affordability.

Maritime Solutions

MarineStar has become the leading marine solution of its kind in Asia and other regional markets, solidifying Thuraya’s position as a technology and solutions driven brand. By previewing its next-generation broadband product line, Thuraya was also keen to give CommunicAsia visitors a first-hand experience of the advanced satellite communications capabilities that Yahsat envisions for its mobile business. Thuraya also participated in a panel at Asia Satellite Business Week entitled “Mobile Satellite Connected Services: The Next Step for IoT and Direct-to-Device”.

In 2022, Yahsat’s mobile unit Thuraya will contribute 19% of the group’s total revenue, with revenue growth in voice (+4%), maritime (+6%) and data services (+16%). With Thuraya 4-NGS, Yahsat’s sixth satellite, scheduled to launch in the first half of 2024 and become operational in 2025, more exciting opportunities lie ahead. Thuraya’s new product line has been strategically designed to take advantage of the advanced capabilities of Thuraya 4-NGS.

Prior to the Partner Conference and CommunicAsia, Thuraya’s senior management attended the APSAT (Asia Pacific Satellite) International Conference in Jakarta, further emphasizing Yahsat’s commitment to the Asia Pacific region.
