February 24 (United Press International) — On the first anniversary of Russia’s war in Ukraine, Britain on Friday announced sweeping sanctions against dozens of people and a broad export ban affecting “every single item that Russia has ever used on the battlefield”.
Those sanctioned include 34 executives of Russia’s two largest defense companies, Rostec and Almaz-Antey Corporation; 20 executives of Russian energy company Gazprom; and five senior Iranian executives of Qods Aviation Industry, which has been working on behalf of the Kremlin Palace manufactures drones for use in Ukraine.

Several people in Russian President Vladimir Putin’s inner circle were also blacklisted on Friday, including Nord Stream 2 CEO Mattias Warnig and former Russian gymnast, Mother of Duma deputy Alina Kabaeva, accused of being the president’s mistress.
Four Russian banks were also hit, as were six Russian companies that manufacture or repair military equipment for Kremlin forces.
Trade measures, such as an export ban on every item Russia has used in its war against Ukraine, are also included in the package, banning the export of hundreds of aerospace parts, radio equipment and electronic components to Russia.
The UK also banned the import of 140 goods, including steel products processed in third countries.
British officials say the sanctions and trade measures target Russia’s already strained ability to produce armour, including armored vehicles and attack helicopters, in hopes of further hampering Putin’s war machine.
“The Ukrainians are turning the tables on Russia, but they cannot do it alone,” British Foreign Secretary James Cleverley said in a statement. a statement Sanctions are announced. “That’s why we must do more to help Ukraine.
“Today we are sanctioning the elite who run Putin’s key industries and committing to ban the export to Russia of everything Russia has ever used on the battlefield.”
Since the war began with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, the European country’s Western allies, including Britain and the United States, have been arming the fight while repeatedly sanctioning Russia to cripple its ability to wage war.
With the blacklisting of 92 people and entities on Friday, Britain has sanctioned more than 1,500 Russians and Russian companies.
