UK cuts Covid-19 test costs for passengers from UAE, India-News

[ad_1]

Prices fell sharply after complaints about fees levied by private suppliers in the UK.

Following complaints about excessive fees charged by private suppliers in the UK, the Boris Johnson government on Saturday lowered the mandatory Covid-19 test for international immigrants from countries on the Green and Amber lists, including the UAE and India. price.

The UAE and India are among the countries moved to the Amber List on August 8, allowing travel to the United Kingdom (UK) to resume under easier quarantine and testing rules.

If a passenger from a country/region on the Amber List is vaccinated, the person needs to be tested for Covid-19 on the second day of arrival.

If the person has not been vaccinated, in addition to testing on the second and eighth days, they also need to be quarantined for 10 days at home or where they are staying.

Those from the green list countries need to take the exam the next day.

The cost of the test for the second day booked and conducted at the National Health Service (NHS) has been reduced from £88 (Dh448) to £68 (Dh346), green or fully vaccinated with amber vaccine, and Two tests were conducted from 170 pounds (866 dirhams) for incompletely vaccinated amber entrants at a cost of 136 pounds (693 dirhams).

Hundreds of companies currently offer Covid-19 testing and charge a range of prices. It is expected that the test provided by the NHS will serve as a reference point for lowering the test price, and the government will initiate a “fast internal review” of the pricing and service standards of all second and eighth day test providers.

British officials stated that any misleading pricing will be quickly banned, and listings found to have misleading pricing will be urgently deleted. This is the second time the price of the NHS test has been reduced. This is the second and eighth day after the review in May. The package fee for the second and eighth days has been reduced from 210 pounds (1,070 francs) to 170 pounds (866 dirhams).

NHS Test and Trace advertises its tests together with test kits from private companies, and they can be purchased to meet the UK government’s testing requirements for international travel.

British Health Minister Sajid Javid said: “I know how much people expect from summer vacation, and the cost of PCR testing may be an obstacle. This is why I am determined to protect consumers and hard-working families from exploitation. And to ensure that high-quality testing is provided at a reasonable price.”

He added: “I am pleased to announce that from now on, we will cut the price of NHS Test and Trace on the second and eighth days by one-fifth… Any provider found to be misleading the public will be Fired. Too many suppliers behave like cowboys and this situation needs to be stopped. The public should be allowed to enjoy the summer vacation without facing excessive costs or anxiety.”

British officials said that test providers must use laboratories that are accredited by an independent British certification service agency or are undergoing accreditation. British companies that use laboratories that do not meet high standards will be removed from the approved supplier list without hesitation.
