Ukrainian Railways Offers Token Tickets to Celebrate Kherson Victory

[ad_1]

As a celebration of the recapture of the city of Kherson, Ukrainian Railways on Sunday (November 13) offered symbolic tickets to the public. The tickets are from Kyiv to Kherson and other Ukrainian cities under Russian control.

Jubilant residents welcomed Ukrainian troops to central Kherson on Friday after Russia abandoned the only regional capital it has occupied since the invasion began in February.

“Today you can order tickets for the first three trains from Kyiv to five cities: Kherson, which is already vacant, as well as Mariupol, Donetsk, Luhansk and Simferopol,” the company said. The railway operator said on the Telegram messaging app.

“This ticket can be purchased as a symbol of faith in the armed forces and the liberation of Ukraine from the occupiers,” it said. “Once traffic resumes, railway officials will send a message stating the date and location.”

Tickets start at 1,000 hryvnia ($27.40).

The port city of Mariupol remains under Russian control. After a nearly four-month siege, Russia took over the city.

Donetsk and Luhansk, the two largest cities in eastern Ukraine, were controlled by pro-Russian separatists in 2014, while Simferopol is the second largest city on the Crimean peninsula, which Russia annexed from Ukraine in 2014 Crimea Peninsula.
