A spokesperson for Guterres confirmed the meeting, which did not include the ten non-permanent members of the Security Council.
On August 16, the day after the Taliban came to power in the country, all members of the Security Council held their last meeting on Afghanistan.
Guterres also condemned the bombing at Kabul Airport on Thursday, which killed dozens of people, including 12 American soldiers, and was claimed by the Islamic State group.
He said in a statement: “This incident has highlighted the turbulence in the local situation in Afghanistan, but it has also strengthened our determination to continue to provide emergency assistance across the country to support the Afghan people.”
