United Nations: Saudi Arabia supports the prevention of Iran’s nuclear weapons, King Salman said-News

“The Kingdom insists on the importance of keeping the Middle East free of weapons of mass destruction. On this basis, we support international efforts aimed at preventing Iran from possessing nuclear weapons,” he said in a pre-recorded video speech at the annual meeting.

Iran and Saudi Arabia have been competitors for many years. They severed diplomatic relations in 2016, but this year they have been holding talks aimed at easing tensions.

King Salman said: “Iran is a neighboring country, and we hope that initial negotiations with it will produce concrete results to build trust…based on…respect for sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs.”

Before his remarks, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi called for the resumption of nuclear negotiations with world powers, which would lead to the lifting of sanctions by the United States.

According to Iran’s semi-official Meir News Agency, on Tuesday, the Saudi Foreign Minister met with the Iranian Foreign Minister during the conference.

Yemen peace

King Salman said in his speech that the Houthis in Yemen rejected the peace initiative to end the war, and Saudi Arabia will defend against ballistic missiles and armed drones.
