Hudaydah, September 11, 2022 – UNMHA Head of Mission Major General (retired) Michael Beary and his deputy, Ms Vivian van de Perre, met Yemen’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora Ahmad Awadh BinMubarak and other Yemeni government officials in Riyadh on Saturday.
Discussions focused on measures to strengthen cooperation between the mission and the Yemeni government, as well as immediate steps to advance the new mandate of the United Nations Department of Humanitarian Affairs, including expanding the mission’s presence in Yemen’s government-controlled Hodeidah area, as mandated.
The meeting followed a multi-day regional visit to Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Jordan, where Major General Berry met with senior officials from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, permanent members of the Security Council, and the wider The diplomatic community, including representatives of the United States, United Kingdom, France, European Union, Germany, Ireland and the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
During these engagements, Major General Beary introduced his newly appointed Deputy Head of Mission, Ms. Vivian van de Perre, and emphasized the mission’s efforts to work with both parties to effectively advance the implementation of the Hodeidah Agreement, reiterating the importance of supporting both parties to maintain Hodeidah The civil nature of the port.
