Dynamic Emirati entrepreneur Reem Al Zarouni has a background in fashion design with strong connections to the world of fashion and lifestyle.
After launching her gown line, R Style, she is now in the marketing and event management business. Reem was also actively involved in organizing the Modern Woman show which launched in November 2015.
The success of R Style has given her an understanding of the fashion and lifestyle needs of women today. This knowledge helps coordinate the modern women’s show.
“Dubai is known for its fashion, style and beauty business, and women take their appearance and grooming very seriously. But in this competitive environment, industry retailers need to constantly reach out to customers and provide a meeting place for like-minded people, including retail merchants and end users. Also, we need a platform where the local fashion industry can communicate with international counterparts,” she said.
Knowing the need, Reem worked with Sumansa Exhibitions to conceptualize a modern women’s show.
“The show is a coalition of UAE, regional and other international exhibitors in the fashion and personal care industry, jewelry and accessories and even artisanal confectionery. We want to create a platform where women from all walks of life can come and share their retail directly interact with the merchants,” Reem told Khaleej Times.
“On the other hand, it is also important for retailers as such shows provide strong support for budding entrepreneurs and help new businesses gain a foothold in the ultra-competitive UAE fashion and beauty industry,” she said .
The second Modern Woman show will be held at Za’abeel Hall 4, Dubai World Trade Center from April 20th to 22nd.
“We have a bigger exhibition as many international brands from the GCC, India, South Africa and Indonesia are participating. We plan to bring the event to other parts of the GCC and Europe in due course,” Reem said.
Coming from a business-oriented family, Reem is in business with the aim of helping other women thrive.
She said her first sources of funding were her savings and family. “My father, Mohamed Al Zarouni, and my brother, Adel Al Zarouni, have always been my greatest inspirations. I admire their ambition and drive,” she said.
According to Reem, the UAE ecosystem is very conducive to helping start-ups, especially for women. “The government has played a vital role in pushing the ecosystem in the right direction. Dubai is the perfect market to start your own business. As a woman, I can say that we have a lot of support from the government. I have seen my The way friends and family thrive in their respective businesses,” she added.
According to Reem, the ecosystem in the UAE gives entrepreneurs the confidence to move forward.
“We have seen entrepreneurs from all over the world come to the UAE and set up profitable businesses. This speaks highly of our fertile entrepreneurial ecosystem,” she said. She urges young entrepreneurs to never underestimate their talents and skills.
“One should have faith in the community and try to do their best. Success doesn’t come easily and it takes relentless effort. If you have a dream, don’t be afraid to go after it and be patient,” she concluded.
